TSTC to host summer community cooking classes
(HUTTO, Texas) – Austin-area residents with an interest in cooking have an opportunity to learn this summer from Texas State Technical College’s Culinary Arts program.
Community cooking classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays from June 15 to Aug. 3. Classes will be held on the third floor of the East Williamson County Higher Education Center at 1600 Innovation Blvd. in Hutto.
“This semester, we teamed up with (TSTC’s) Workforce Training and Continuing Education department and our campus recruiting team to put these classes together to give back,” said Chasey Davis, an instructor in TSTC’s Culinary Arts program. “These classes are being held not only to help the community learn more skills in the kitchen and have a good time, but to give back to our amazing students who work to get their education.”
There will be classes for children, adults and couples. Couples classes are for people 18 and over, while family nights are for people ages 8 and up. General public classes are for ages 15 and older.
The classes are:
- June 15 for the general public: Chocolate chip cookies, $65 per person.
- June 22 for the general public: Vegetable sushi, $65 per person.
- June 29 for the general public: Apple and cherry pies, $65 per person.
- July 6 for families: Parfaits, $23 per person.
- July 13 for couples: Pasta, $95 for two people.
- July 20 for families: Pizza: $23 per person.
- July 27 for the general public: Cake decorating, $65 per person.
- Aug. 3 for couples: Charcuterie, $95 for two people.
Participants are asked to wear nonslip shoes and comfortable clothes. There is a limited number of people that can be accommodated for each session.
Admission to the classes can be paid at the time of arrival. Class participants can also make donations to the Culinary Arts program’s Level 3 Dining Experience for the East Williamson County campus through The TSTC Foundation. Donations are used for equipment and textbooks for students. This can be done by going to tstc.edu/give.
