Alan Raith will start work this fall as an instructor in the new Plumbing and Pipefitting Technology program at Texas State Technical College’s Harlingen campus.

(HARLINGEN, Texas) – As construction moves forward on the Applied Technologies Center at Texas State Technical College in Harlingen, instructors selected to lead its new programs are actively preparing to educate the next generation of skilled trades professionals.

Alan Raith will serve as the new instructor for the Plumbing and Pipefitting Technology program starting this fall.

“I have a brand-new facility and lab to get the hands-on training underway,” he said. “My approach to teaching this trade reflects safety and respects each student’s learning style.”

Raith said there are key lessons from the beginning that he wants students to understand.

“Our goal is to help protect the health and safety of our water supply while emphasizing the importance of safety,” he said. “Students will have all the tools and support they need to be successful.”

Raith offered some advice for future students who are interested in this career.

“You need to have patience in this type of work and have an understanding of math and physics,” he said.

Originally from Wisconsin and now living in Harlingen, Raith brings 40 years of industry experience, including 12 years of professional work. The opportunity to share his knowledge and skills are reminiscent of his father’s work ethic.

“My dad was a firm believer in being honest and accountable for your work,” he said. “His philosophy stayed with me which is reminiscent of TSTC’s values.”
