Community event to spotlight TSTC Allied Health programs

(HARLINGEN, Texas) – The Allied Health division at Texas State Technical College’s Harlingen campus will host a community event from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, at the Cultural Arts Center at the corner of North Loop 499 and Jasmine Street.

Prospective TSTC students who are interested in beginning a specialized health care program such as Biomedical Equipment Technology, Dental Hygiene, Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, Surgical Technology or Vocational Nursing next fall are encouraged to attend the event.

“Our medical programs have established strong working relationships with respective industry partners who allow students the opportunity to gain employment across the state,” said Anna San Pedro, associate provost for TSTC’s Harlingen campus. “The community event benefits our industry partners by bringing awareness to prospective students that results in increased enrollment and graduate placement.”

Attendees will learn about enrollment and program information, health education and community engagement.

Oscar Cortez, TSTC’s Emergency Medical Services program director, said the EMS program will showcase a variety of educational elements.

“Individuals will see the type of realistic medical manikins used by our students for training purposes,” he said. “Participants will be introduced to the advanced iSimulate training cardiac monitors. We will show a recorded training video of our Immersive Interactive classroom. Additionally, our program will demonstrate cardiopulmonary resuscitation.”

Prospective students and the public will learn how TSTC trains students to be ready to meet the challenges of the Texas workforce.

Representatives of TSTC’s Enrollment and Recruitment departments will be available if individuals are interested in registering for the college’s Allied Health programs.
