(HARLINGEN, Texas) – Texas State Technical College’s Surgical Technology program has partnered with Stryker Trauma to provide advanced training opportunities for area surgeons while giving TSTC students firsthand exposure to evolving techniques and technologies.
On Thursday, June 4, TSTC and Stryker Trauma signed a memorandum of understanding that will allow Stryker to use TSTC’s Surgical Technology lab for cadaver-based training sessions. Through the partnership, TSTC will be the only technical college in the Rio Grande Valley affiliated with Stryker Trauma.
“By participating in these sessions, our students will strengthen their understanding of anatomy, sterile technique, instrumentation management and intraoperative teamwork,” said Yolanda Ramirez, TSTC’s Surgical Technology program team lead. “This exposure to cutting-edge equipment, emerging surgical procedures and interdisciplinary collaboration helps students develop the adaptability, critical thinking and technical skills that industry employers are seeking.”
Gina Cano-Monreal, provost of TSTC’s Harlingen campus, said the college is committed to aligning its curriculum, including hands-on instruction, with the needs of the industry.
“This partnership exemplifies that commitment because it directly aligns our Surgical Technology curriculum with real-world experience,” she said.
Chantelle Grant, regional program manager for Stryker Trauma, said TSTC was selected as a partner because of its location and alignment with the Stryker’s mission and values.
“Having a trusted partner within the Rio Grande Valley allows us to bring education closer to the customers we serve,” she said. “TSTC’s commitment to workforce development, hands-on learning and serving the needs of its community closely aligns with Stryker’s approach to medical education.
